Advantages of reverse cycle air conditioning

There are lots of advantages to using a reverse cycle split air conditioning system for cooling and heating. Here are just a few:

1. The obvious – warm in winter, cool in summer

Forget about bulky fans in summer and cumbersome gas heaters in winter!

Reverse cycle air conditioning split systems will do it all for you.

Using a much more energy efficient heating technique than conventional heaters, your heating and cooling system does not ‘create’ heat energy. Instead, it cleverly absorbs heat from the air outside to warm or cool the air inside your home.

In winter, a refrigerant is passed through an external coil, absorbing heat from the outside air. This refrigerant is then pumped through a compressor into a fan coil unit (or ‘condenser’) inside the home, releasing its heat into the room.

By reversing the flow of this refrigerant, reverse cycle air conditioners also provide efficient refrigerative cooling in summer.

2. They are very efficient and clever machines

Modern reverse cycle air conditioners are extremely efficient even in the most extreme conditions – one kW of electricity consumed, will generate three or more kW of heating or cooling.

Not only that – they also have the capacity to efficiently recycle air more than a dozen times per hour.

For you, this means all the benefits of a smaller reverse cycle unit in each room without the very painful power bill!

In fact, you could be looking at a reduction in your power bills of about 30%.

Keep an eye for the energy rating label in your window and split-system – blue for their cooling function and red for their heating function. As with all other appliances, the more stars your heating and cooling unit has, the more efficient it is.

3. They have zoning capabilities

And why does that matter?

Because you can turn on your air conditioner for only the part of the house you want cooled or heated rather than having to heat the entire house all the time.

(And therefore, saving a lot of money).

For instance, you could concentrate the heating/cooling in the living areas during the day and in the bedrooms after 10pm.

Or, you can heat/cool only your second floor while the children are playing and you are working there. This way, you don’t have to waste energy heating the floor that no one is utilising.

Or, you can set different climate levels for different areas as required.

Totally up to you.

4. They help purify the air you and your family breathe

Many quality air conditioners feature a built-in air-purifying filter that traps fine airborne particles, therefore helping you purify the air inside your home. Some even decompose odours and absorb and deactivate bacteria and viruses.

A very welcomed bonus if you or one of your family members suffer from asthma or hay fever!

5. They are very green

Efficient heating and cooling systems, like the one’s you’ll find at Energy House tend to produce only one-third the greenhouse gas emissions of standard electric heaters. And if you opt for the top of the range 5–6-star energy rated reverse cycle units, you are probably looking at producing less than one-fifth of the emissions of conventional electric heaters.

Surely that will make you feel better about using your air conditioner!

Just ensure you keep them in top shape at all times to prevent your unit from working harder than it should.
